Redwoods

Coastal redwoods are the tallest trees in the world. Around 1850, people realized that cutting down 500-year-old trees would quickly make you rich. In less than 100 years, 96% of the old growth coastal redwood forests were gone. The Redwoods National and State Parks in California preserve half of what is left.
