Crater Lake

About 7700 years ago, Mount Mazama erupted violently, partially emptying the magma chamber below the mountain. The center of Mount Mazama crashed into the chamber below, shooting great fountains of lava miles into the air. The explosion and implosion left a hole that is now a lake.
