Only one scientist ever went to the moon. The other astronauts who walked on the moon were pilots. This shot shows the scientist, a geologist named Harrison Schmitt, preparing to take some samples near a giant boulder during the Apollo 17 mission. This was the last manned mission to the moon in 1972.
