The west sides of Oregon and Washington are lush and green, but the
Cascade Mountains block the clouds coming from the ocean. The east sides of the states get little rain, and have much less vegetation. This picture was taken to monitor wildfires, and several smoke plumes are visible. (Hancock Field Station is
