The brightest globular cluster in the entire local group of galaxies is not in the Milky Way. It is G1, also known as Mayall II, at the edge of the Andromeda Galaxy. It is so enormous and bright, that you can see with a large (10-inch) amateur telescope if you know just where to look. The Hubble gives you this view. (The two brightest stars are in our own galaxy, and thousands of times closer than G1.)
